Baked Ziti with Chicken Sausage
Appliance: Slow Cooker - 4 quarts and larger.

Ingredients
   Butter, oil or cooking spray (for coating crock)
   1 (16 ounce) container cottage cheese OR 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
   1 egg, beaten
   2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
   1 cup Parmesan cheese, divided
   1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
   2 (26-ounce) jars spaghetti sauce
   1 pound fully cooked chicken sausage, sliced
   1 (16-ounce) box uncooked ziti pasta
   2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)


Directions
Grease bottom and sides of Slow Cooker's crock or inner bowl with butter or oil or coat with cooking spray.

In a medium bowl, mix together cottage or ricotta cheese, egg, 1/2 cup mozzarella, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese and the oregano.

In Slow Cooker's crock, layer two cups of sauce, half the sausage, half the ziti noodles, half the wet cheese mixture, 1/2 cup mozzarella, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers, ending with remaining sauce, mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.

Cover and cook on high for 4 - 5 hours, until noodles are tender and internal temperature of casserole has reached 165 degrees (F).

Switch Slow Cooker off and allow casserole to rest about 30 minutes to set. Garnish with parsley (optional) and serve.
