Hot Buttered Rum
Appliance: Slow Cooker - 3 quarts and larger.

Ingredients
   2 quarts (8 cups) warm water
   2 cups dark brown sugar
   1/2 cup butter (1 stick), cubed
   4 cinnamon sticks
   8 whole cloves
   3/4 cup rum (or to taste)


Directions
Stir together water and brown sugar in the crock or inner bowl of your slow cooker until sugar has dissolved. Stir in butter and add spices. Cook until the butter has melted and the mixture is hot, but not boiling, about a 1 to 1 1/2 hours on High or 3 to 4 hours on Low.

Switch slow cooker to Keep Warm (or Low, depending on your model). To serve, measure 1 jigger (1 1/2 ounces or 3 tablespoons) rum into a small coffee cup or Irish coffee cocktail mug and top with about 8 ounces (1 cup) of the hot butter mix.
