Buttered Cider
Appliance: Slow Cooker - 3 quarts and larger.

Ingredients
   2 quarts (64 ounces) apple cider
   2 whole oranges, sliced
   2 whole lemons, sliced
   4 cinnamon sticks (about 3 inches each)
   4 tablespoons butter, softened
   2 tablespoons brown sugar
   2 teaspoon cinnamon
   1/4 teaspoon cloves


Directions
Stir together cider, fruit slices and cinnamon sticks in slow cooker's crock or inner bowl. Cover and cook on High for one hour, or Low for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.

In a small bowl, stir together softened butter, sugar and spices until smooth and well blended. Cover and chill while cider warms.

To serve, reduce slow cooker to Keep Warm. Using a slotted spoon or spider, remove citrus slices and cinnamon sticks from cider and discard. Place 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of the cold spiced butter into each mug and ladle in the hot cider. Stir and serve, being sure to test temperature before serving small children.
