Apple Crisp

Ingredients
For the Topping:
   1 cup flour
   1/2 cup white sugar
   1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
   1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
   1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
   1/4 teaspoon salt
   1/2 cup chilled butter, cut into pieces
   1 cup chopped walnuts
   
For the Filling:
   1/3 cup white sugar
   2 tablespoons flour
   1 teaspoon salt
   1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
   1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
   1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
   6 cups apples - peeled, cored and chopped
   2 tablespoons lemon juice or cider vinegar


Directions
For the Topping:
In medium bowl, mix together flour, sugars, spices and salt. Cut butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or two knives, until coarse crumbs form. Stir in the walnuts. Set aside.

For the Filling:
In a small bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, salt and spices. Place the apples in your slow cooker's crock or inner bowl and stir in the sugar mixture; toss with lemon juice or vinegar (prevents the apples from discoloring).

Sprinkle the walnut crumb topping over the fruit. Cover and cook on High for 2 hours or Low for 4 hours, until apples are mostly tender. Partially uncover the slow cooker and continue cooking on Low until topping hardens, about an hour.
