Simply Steamed Asparagus
Appliance: Rice Cooker - 4 to 8 cup capacity with Steamer Basket.

Ingredients
   1 small bunch asparagus
   Salt and pepper, to taste
   Fresh lemon juice (optional)


Directions
Prepare your rice cooker for steam cooking according to the manufacturer's instructions OR fill your rice cooker's inner bowl half way with water, cover and press the Cook button. Use steam cooking setting, if applicable, and bring to a boil.

Wash asparagus spears. Snap woody ends from the base of each spear. For very large, mature spears, use a vegetable peeler to remove fibrous skin from stalks beneath the buds.

Place asparagus in rice cooker's steamer basket or a bamboo steamer. Carefully remove lid from rice cooker and place steamer in place. Cover and steam until spears are tender, 10 to 14 minutes, tossing spears occasionally for even cooking. Season to taste with salt and pepper, sprinkle with lemon juice (if using) and serve.
